On Saturday May 22, TSFR personnel gathered to pay tribute to our recently departed brother Robert Desche Jr in a memorial service held at our station. We were joined by members of the Desche family, Laurys Station Fire Co, Wyomissing and Western Berks FD personnel, and members of the Red Knights Motorcycle club. The services were conducted by Fire Chaplain Kindall Wann from the Womelsdorf Fire Co. Bobs brother Matt is a Captain at Laurys Station (Lehigh Station 12) and their members were instrumental in creating a memorable event.
At the conclusion of the service, TSFR Engine 85, Utility 85 and Deputy 85 joined Laurys Station Engines 1211 and 1212 with Chief 1201 in proceeding north to Lehigh County for Bobs final interment. The procession included approximately 30 family vehicles and multiple motorcycles from the Red Knights. Several Berks county companies (including Kenhorst, Leesport, Fleetwood and PSU LifeLion EMS rendered salutes along the route). In Lehigh County, multiple ladder arches and various departments also rendered honors.
The procession ended at the Schisler Funeral Home in Northampton where a separate service was conducted, after which the process transferred to the St Johns UCC Cemetery in Laury's Station for a final gravesite service.
TSFR would like to thank our brothers and sisters from Laurys Station for joining us in our services and permitting us to participate in theirs. We'd also like to acknowledge the services of the Red Knight Motorcycle Club, the Berks County Fire Chaplains, our mutual aid partners and Jeff Naugle (our taps bugler). |
