Kitchen Fire, Berks Place, Spring Twp
Wed, Apr 17th, 2019 10:44:00 pm On Wednesday afternoon April 17, a structure fire assignment consisting of TSFRS Engine 85 and Wyo FD Engine 79, along with Shillington Engine 36, Kenhorst Engine 69, Western Berks FD Ladder 18 and Engine 18-1, Mohnton L57, Temple Rescue 11 and Western Berks EMS was dispatched for a residential structure fire on Berks Place in the Whitfield section of Spring Twp. The fire was reported to be on the stove. E85 under Captain Neubert responded and arrived with a single family dwelling with nothing showing from the exterior and the occupants outside. Captain 85 assumed command and Fire Ops 1 was assigned by BCCC.

When the crew entered the building, they found a smoldering fire on the top of the stove with minor extension into the kitchen cabinets and range hood. Also a moderate smoke condition was present on the floor above. E79 under Capt Yeager was assigned to cover the hydrant at Berks and Grandview, while L18 positioned in front of the home.

Deputy 85 (Schartel) arrived and assumed command and was advised by Capt. 85 that the fire appeared to be out but that they were checking for extension. When none was found the assignment was returned with the exception of E85, E79 and L18. L18 set up PPV at the front door and at the base of the steps to the third floor, assisted by E79s crew. Personnel then disconnected the power to the range hood and the stove at the circuit breaker in the basement and removed the range hood from the cabinets. Both breakers were locked out in the off position.

Once ventilation was completed, all units were returned and Fire Marshal 43 (Hatt) completed the investigation.
